3 campus journalists here qualify for Nat’l Schools Presscon

Three campus journalists, all from the elementary level, placed in the top 3 of their individual writing contests at the 2019 Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held recently in Legazpi City to qualify for the national competition.

In Photojournalism (English), Freazhia Jane A. Gianan of the Catanduanes State University Laboratory Schools clinched first place in the tough event.

Alyssa Nina C. Tapado of San Andres Central Elementary School took second place in Copyreading & Headline Writing (English) while Marianne Nicole O. Olfindo of Viga Central Elementary School held on to 3rd place in the same event.

In News Writing (Filipino), Hannah Isabelle M. Tria of Virac Pilot Elementary School placed 5th, the same rank as Arianne M. Vargas of Juan M. Alberto Memorial Elementary School in Editorial Cartooning (Filipino). Only the top three individual placers advance to the 2019 NSPC.

Named as Outstanding School Paper Adviser was Ricky V. Tid of Tinago Elementary School while Shanelle Mae S. Alvea of San Andres Central Elementary School was 1st runner-up in the search for Outstanding Campus Journalist.

The individual contestants in the secondary level were shut out of the top 5 in their respective events.

In the School Paper Category, the delegation redeemed themselves with a good finish, with the elementary papers placing 4th overall among the 13 divisions.

ENGLISH: The Jmamesian (Juan M. Alberto Memorial ES) - 8th place Best School Paper, 2nd place – Best Features Page, and 5th place – Best Science & Technology Page.

The Torch (SACES) - 9th place Best School Paper, 4th place – Best Science & Technology Page, and 6th place – Best Page Layout & Design.

The Baptistine Gazette (Ville St. John School) - 9th place Best News Page.

The Star (Virac Pilot ES) - 9th place Best Page Layout & Design.

The Flashes (Viga Central ES) - 6th place Best Features Page.

FILIPINO: Ang Pithaya (Tinago ES) - 1st place Best School Paper, 1st place Best Features Page, 2nd place Best Page Layout & Design, 3rd place Best News Page, 4th place Best Editorial Page, and 5th place Best Sci-Tech Page.

Ang Jmamesian (JMAMES) - 2nd place Best Editorial Page and 10th place Best Features Page.

Ang Tambuli (VSJS) - 3rd place Best Features Page.

A similar performance was displaced by the secondary school papers:

Editorial Page (English): The Synchronizer (CNHS), 1st place, and The Beacon (Bote IS), 5th place.

Editorial Page (Filipino): Ang Kampilan (CNHS), 4th place.

Features Page (English) : The Flame (Baras RDHS), 1st place, The Courier (Caramoran RDHS), 8th place, and The Sychronizer (CNHS), 10th place.

Features Page (Filipino): Ang Rimora (Caramoran RDHS), 4th place, Ang Hibla (Tubli NHS), 6th place, and Granahe (PSAT), 7th place.

Sci-Tech Page (English): The Synchronizer (CNHS), 2nd place, The Laboratorian (CSULS), 7th place, and

Overall, the English papers did well, with The Synchronizer (CNHS) selected as 1st placer, followed by

The Flame (Baras RDHS), 7th, and The Beacon (Bote IS), 8th.

In Filipino, CNHS’ Ang Kampilan was 8th best paper.

In the group event, the CNHS team placed third in Online Collaborative Publishing (Filipino).
