Farmer, businessman yield guns, ammo in police search

Twin operations mounted by different police units led to the confiscation of two handguns, ammunition and a hand grenade from a farmer in Panganiban and a businessman in Gigmoto last week.

At 3:15 A.M. of Nov. 14, 2019, joint elements of the Panganiban police station, the Catanduanes Provincial Intelligence Branch-Special Operations Group (CATPIB-SOG), and the 1st and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Lt. Erwin Rommel C. Calderon were at barangay Cabuyoan to implement the search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 42 Presiding Judge Genie G. Gapas-Agbada against Jordan Cid Soledad, 24.

The team seized from the farmer one Cal. 38 Smith & Wesson Magnum with four bullets and a hand grenade. Soledad faces twin criminal cases for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act) and RA 9516 (Illegal/Unlawful Possession, Manufacture, Dealing in, Acquisition, of Firearms, Ammunition or Explosives or Instruments Used in the Manufacture of Firearms, Ammunition or Explosives).

In San Isidro, Bagamanoc at 7:51 A.M. that same day, elements of the Gigmoto police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Catanduanes Field Unit served a similar warrant issued by the same Court on businessman Zaldy Tumampil Segismundo, 46.

A search turned up in his possession a Cal. 45 Springfield pistol, a magazine and five live ammunition.

The firearms seized will be turned over to the regional police crime laboratory for ballistic examination as well as verification check.
