P50k at stake in PSA comic book contest

The Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) is dangling a top prize of P50,000.00 and a plaque for the best entry to be submitted in its Comic Book Making Contest now being held in celebration of the 2017 Civil Registration Month this February.

With the theme “Pilipinong Registrado, Matatag na Kinabukasan ay Sigurado,” the celebration is behing held by the PSA pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 682 signed by former President Corazon Aquino on Jan. 28, 1991 and declaring February of every year as Civil Registration Month.

Launched last week with the dissemination of a memorandum and to conclude on Feb. 24, the contest provides that the comic book must illustrate the process of registering the vital events of birth, marriage and death. The winning entry will become property of the PSA. Non-winners will receive P5,000.00 each and a certificate of participation.

Under the rules, field offices shall prepare one entry for the competition, with only one entry to be submitted for each region. Entries must be done using legal-size bond paper, booklet type. The number of pages of the comic book must be divisible by 4 and must not exceed 20 pages, including the front and back covers.

Entries may use either painting tools such as water color, oil, pastel, pencil, etc. or computer graphics. The comic book may either be colored or black-and-white. Information on the process of vital event registration will be provided for reference. The participants shall be held accountable for any issues that may arise with regards to the originality and authenticity of the design.

Entries must be submitted in both hard and soft copies on Feb, 24, 12 P.M., at the Office of the National Statistician for Civil Registration Service. They will be judged on the following criteria: Originality, 35%; Creativity and Presentation, 25%; and, Completeness of process of civil registration, 40%.
