The Catanduanes State University, in partnership with the Local Government Academy, will host the 2013 International Research Forum (IRF 2013) on Local Governance and Accountability in Environmental Protection, Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Sustainable Development on August 15-17, 2013.
IRF 2013 is the first-ever international event to be organized by the Catanduanes State University and synchronizes with CSU President Minerva I. Morales' global positioning of the university as the center for island studies and innovations.
The CHED-endorsed event will gather faculty-researchers/professors of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) instructors, LGU officials, NGO experts, and other institution researchers.
Aside from parallel session research presentations, the key officials invited as plenary speakers are DILG Secretarty Mar Roxas who will discuss on Local Governance and Accountability: The Mitigating Factor; Presidential Adviser on Climate Change Bibeth Guzom who will lecture on Gendered Dimensions of Environmental Protection, Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Sustainable Development; Governor Joey Sarte Salceda who will delineate on the Development Strategies for Local Governments: The Process of Change; and NEDA Regional Office No. V Director Romeo C. Escandor who will talk about National Disaster Risk Reduction Management
The knowledge-sharing sessions will address issues on participatory mechanisms and civil society interventions for environmental Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) and sustainable development; share best practices on transparency and accountability in the local management of wastes, DRRM, and sustainable development, and present what have been achieved so far by local efforts to address local garbage problems.
The research presentations will also enable sharing of experiences and information on disaster risk reduction management systems as practiced in some communities, present concepts and ideas on the role of local governance and accountability in sustainable development through environmental protection and DRRM; and underscore the role of the academe in the pursuit of quality of life through local governance and accountability, environmental protection and disaster risk reduction management
For those who are interested to present research papers, the deadline for submission of abstracts is on July 15, 2013. Authors of approved conference papers will be notified via email or SMS on or before July 19, 2013.
