Owners of business establishments, already burdened by increased taxes, fees and charges, have been given a little breathing space by the Sangguniang Bayan of Virac. The municipal council recently extended the deadline for the renewal of business permits and licenses from January 20 to February 20, 2010 without penalty, surcharge or interest.

In its January 19 session, the council acted favorably on the request of the Virac Market Vendors Association (VIMASA) and the Virac Downtown Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (VDTODA).

Citing the increase in taxes, fees and charges approved in December 2009 and being implemented by the municipal government, the council said business operators need some form of consideration to alleviate their burden while trying to cope with it financially. Sponsored by Councilor Rosie Olarte, the measure as unanimously approved by the council.
