DOTC Assistant Secretary Cesar V. Sarmiento vowed to give cash incentives to winners of gold medals from the Catanduanes delegation now competing at the Palarong Bicol 2010 at Daet, Camarines Norte.
Sarmiento joined Gov . Joseph C. Cua, PBMs Edwin Tanael and Neil Asanza, and Virac Councilor Raffy Zuniega in giving moral support to the delegation and in joining the parade around the city.
In his brief message, Sarmiento encouraged the athletes to bring the glory back to Catanduanes and to grab the opportunity of having more friends from other delegations. While he said he missed the chance to represent Catanduanes in sports in his younger years, he said he has been working very hard to bring honor to Inang Catandungan, especially when he headed a Task Force at the DOTC that led to the savings of more than a billion pesos for the government as a result of an investigation. He urged athletes to always say to themselves before the start of every event: "I love Catanduanes!"
As an incentive, on behalf of the Sarmiento and Alcantara families, he announced to the delegation that gold medal winners for individual events will receive P500 while team event winners will get P5,000.
