The Kilusang Bagong Lipunan is still alive and keeping its torch lighted in Catanduanes is Salvador "Badong" Gianan, its official candidate for Governor.
Gianan’s vision is a progressive Catanduanes that is self-reliant and competitive with its neighbors, through a vibrant economy and disciplined and law-abiding citizens. This, he said, can be achieved through the full development and utilization of its natural resources through sustainable and environment-friendly technologies.
By harnessing and utilizing the natural resources of the island, especially the agricultural sector, employment will be generated, Gianan stressed. "We should apply modern and appropriate technology compatible with our soil and climate and plant high-yielding crops to increase food production," he said.
He added that the services of technocrats should be tapped in this regard and local and foreign investors should be encourages to invest in the province, particularly in tapping the vast hydro resources of the island and developing alternative energy sources.
Small entrepreneurs and cooperatives should be encouraged through soft loans while livelihood projects should be boosted, the KBL Catanduanes party chairman said. On the other hand, he said, better governance can be achieved through transparency, participation of NGOs and Pos in managing the government, higher responsiveness to constituents’ needs, and a sincere commitment to serve the people.
A native of Sta. Cruz, Virac, the 67-year old Gianan is president of three companies – Win Management & Trading Int’l, SB Gianan Realty, and Project Coordination & Development Corp. He once served with the Employees Compensation Commission at the Department of Labor and Employment as senior executive assistant and was section chief at the Government Service Insurance System.
